Underneath

affair

You slipped beneath my skin today

Tried to reach into my soul

Your eyes fell, easy, into mine

And you began to know

She’s not gonna do it, hey?

Ain’t up to the task

The only thing you see in me

Is Everything she lacks

We sat face-to-face, today

Facades partially in place

But I wondered — just like you, I think —

If they could be erased

What if we decided

To take all these layers off

What if I undressed your soul

Instead, this pleasant talk

Yet here we are again, my friend

Amidst unspoken Want

Sitting heavy in-between us here

Adult masks on top

You’ve settled in my head my dear

As I type these words you read

I wonder….are you brave enough

To choose what’s Underneath?

Thank You

The Passion fine art nude oil painting

The flame inside

Reignited!

by a you I will never have

Is it enough the flame was lit?

Guess I either drown it out or

Take it

Well, I guess it don’t have to be you

But see Life can be a little cruel

In the way She spins her shadowy web

Light glinting off her teasing edge

Promises, promises – the devil’s breath

But, then again…

I learned a lot from you, my stranger-friend

Doubt you’ll ever know the True Effect you had on me

And so it is –

And so it be —

We all go on Not Knowing

Who we touched

Or just How Much

But this is my way

Of saying Thank You

Maybe in another life

It will be you

In a different way

Tangibly

(Oh to have you tangibly!)

Or maybe…

Maybe This was all that was ever meant to be

Though I confess

I wish I could tell you Everything

But at least I can tell you This:

And hope Somewhere Inside you feel it —

My heart-felt, soul-felt

Thank You

Ashes on the Floor

I think I love you

In a way love should never be

For there is a thing as Too Much Heat

Burns up our touch on Reality

Then there’s no place to return to

When the fire dies down

Like fires do

There’s a mad dash out the door

Inevitably

And frankly, it don’t matter if it’s you or me

One of us will have to run away

Fantasy something humans can’t sustain

What would it be like to learn to love the steady flame?

‘Stead of craving this insane raging heat

The Energy in you that brings me to my knees

But here we are, Combusting

I was a fool to think either of us can leave

Blissfully trapped in scorching chemistry

Ignited by other-worldly sparks

The kind that die out as quickly as they burst and flash

And set our silly souls ablaze

Incinerating…

Incinerating…

We find ourselves

In ashes on the floor.
